Arusha Region is one of Tanzania’s 30 Administrative Regions and one among the largest cities in Tanzania. The Region is borders Kajiado County and Narok County both in Kenya to the North, Kilimanjaro Region to the East, Manyara and Singida Regions to the South and Mara and Simiyu Regions to the West. The Region has also major Towns which grow very fast including Monduli, Namanga, Longido, and Loliondo to the North, Mto wa Mbu and Karatu to the West and lastly Usa River to the East.
LAND AREA, AND LAND USE PATTERN
The Region has a total land area of 34,515.3 sq.km. Of which 553.9 sq.km (1.6%) is covered by water including lakes Eyasi, Manyara and Natron. The Region is one among the smallest regions in Tanzania Mainland and occupies about 3.9% of Tanzania’s Mainland total land area, which is 883,343 sq.km
Administratively, the Region has Six Districts, Six District Councils and one City of Arusha. The District Councils are: Arusha City Council, Longido District with one Council Longido, Monduli District with one Council Monduli, Arumeru District with two District Councils- Arusha and Meru, Karatu District with one Council – Karatu, Ngorongoro District with one Council – Ngorongoro.
According to year 2012 National Population Census, the Arusha Region has a total population of 1,694,310 people.
